Last week we finished our math unit on pictographs and bar graphs. We had a visit from Leslie McGarry who spoke about the history of Aboriginal peoples in British Columbia. The Triple C group has started a recycling collection for batteries in celebration of Earth Day coming up.
This week we will be starting fractions and decimals in math and poetry in language arts. We will continue studying biomes and threats or issues endangering the animals, insects, plants and the land in biomes. Is social studies we continue to learn more about Aboriginal history in British Columbia. On Tuesday morning, we are taking the public transit to the Royal BC Museum where Leslie McGarry will guide us on the 'Box of Treasures' tour. The tour is from 10:30-12:00. Thank you to the two parents who have volunteered (Austin's family and Lillian's family) to come with us. I still need 2 parents to come with us on the bus and on the tour. Please email if you are able to join us. There have been some changes to the bus fares, which took effect on April 1st. I will give $5 to each parent for a day pass (can only be purchased from the driver) and they can take 4 children under the age of 12 on the bus with them. Wednesday and Thursday are the student led conference days. A notice was sent home on Thursday to let you know what time slot you were assigned. If there is any issue with the time, just send me a note or email me. You can come at any time during your time slot and do not need to stay for the entire hour. The students are getting ready for your visit and are thrilled to show you their work and the classroom. The praying mantis babies will be here to greet you too......great timing! There is a book fair happening at the school this week as well! Please check the school newsletter for times etc. Have a fabulous week and see you at the student led conferences! Barb Gleeson
