What a busy week. We had a sunny day for our City of Victoria Public Works Day fieldtrip on Tuesday. Thank you so to David and Erum for joining us and making this trip possible. It was a jammed pack day filled with interesting facts about how our city gets the many jobs done. Please look at some of the pictures below. One student and I got to go high in a bucket crane. I was scared at first, but it was a lot of fun!
We went to the UVIC Legacy Art Gallery on Yates Street today. Thank you so much to all the parents that drove and joined us on the fieldtrip. Students learned about 5 Indigenous artists (click on the link below to find out more). Then the students got to try weaving for themselves. http://uvac.uvic.ca/

April was a very interesting month. We enjoyed Earth Day events on the 23rd. We made an insect home and a butterfly water area for our garden spot. Students weeded the garden area as well. They also built a mason bee home. The members of our Triple C club had a draw where students could win bamboo toothbrushes, toothbrushes made from recycled yogurt cups, homemade dishwasher tabs in mason jars and other earth friendly items. We are all doing our part to decrease the amount of plastic in our world and help the animals in our oceans.
We had a visit from Dr. Frank, a UVIC professor. She taught us about solar power and solar cells. They have some amazing workshops through Science ventures at the UVIC. We celebrated our learning in Genius Hour with our presentations on April 13th. I was so impressed with the student work and enthusiasm! It was great to see families visit our classroom and school during student led conferences. I love the connection made between school life and home life! Thank you to everyone that came. During the conferences, we had a book fair happening in the library. I bought some books for our classroom library and thank you so much to families that donated books to our classroom! Please feel free to email me at any time. Thanks, Barb Gleeson |
