Welcome windy, wet weather!
It was great to see parents during the parent/teacher conferences! If we didn't connect, please contact me by email or write a message in your child's agenda. We have started place value, adding and subtracting numbers in the thousands, and estimating. At home, students can roll a dice 4 times to get a 4 digit number and roll again to get another 4 digit number to add to the first. Then they can subtract the smaller number from the larger number. Also, they could round the numbers to the nearest 10, 100, or thousand. Students continue to write in their silent write notebooks and their writing folders and some are ready to publish on their weebly accounts. We are looking at starting our G-suite accounts next week. Just a handful of students need to finish their digital passport and a few more signed forms are needed. Students that haven't completed all of the requirements will not receive their accounts until they have. In science, we are in the middle of our until on Earth, Moon and moon phases. Students can log in to my account at www.onlinekidsdiscover.com, student login (username:firstname and lastnameinitialdiv3, password:student). There are three reading passages with a quiz. We started the district FSA testing on Friday and will continue over the next couple of weeks. During genius hour, students can work on a project that they are interested and excited about. We have been talking about what they like and dislike, what they are good at, and what they would like to try. Today, the began to think of 3 different projects they would like to work on. Next, they will choose one of the ideas and submit a proposal to me for approval. They will be working on their project on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and presenting their projects to the class on November 8th. They will be set up in our classroom like a science fair. They are so excited! Please visit the video about Genius Hour on the weebly home page. We have some field trips coming up, so please ensure the office has new copies of your insurance and drivers license, and a new volunteer driver form, as they are required every September. The ICBC record is also needed again, but the criminal record check last 5 years. We are going to Hartland Landfill on Friday, November 17th 9:30-11:30. The program is called 3R's unwrapped, the link is above. Also, we are going to the Eagle program at the Royal BC Museum on Monday, December 4th 10:00-12:00 and then picnic lunch there. I will need volunteer drivers for these trips. Thank you so much for helping out. Mrs. Gleeson |
